Nativ Irpinia Aglianico 2013
|Region||Italy, Campania, Aglianico d'Irpinia|
A big step up compared to the 2011 vintage, the 2013 Irpinia Aglianico is an oak-driven expression that bursts open in the glass with tones of cinnamon, vanilla bean and espresso. Those spicy notes are followed by sweet fruit, blackberry preserves and cherry liqueur. This is an extracted and opulent expression of one of the boldest indigenous grapes in the Italian portfolio. Sweet cedar wood and dark fruit drive a long finish.
This straightforward wine opens with scents of prune, blue flower, coffee and resin. The aromas follow through to the round, accessible palate along with fleshy blackberry and a hint of anise. Drink through 2016.
Ripe and chewy, with an aromatic profile of dried strawberry, licorice, dried marjoram and spice, set in a medium-bodied frame. Juicy finish. Drink now through 2018. 1,500 cases made.
