Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino 2014
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino|
Aromas of red berry, underbrush and exotic spice take center stage while the smooth, linear palate delivers juicy Morello cherry, clove and espresso. It has polished tannins and nice tension thanks to bright acidity. It's already almost accessible but will also provide good midterm aging. Drink 2020-2026.
This wine pours from the bottle with a very lean appearance and light ruby color. The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is a stripped-down expression of Sangiovese from a vintage that is known for thin and lean wines to begin with. The house style prizes lightness, so these qualities are enhanced to a fault in a vintage like 2014. It might flesh out further with time, but the jury is out. I recommend a short drinking window as a result. Some 40,000 bottles were made.
